Climbing Ararat

Day 1: Murat Camping – Mt Ararat (Camp I) 3200 m

Murat Camping is situated 8 km from Doğubayazit under Ishak Pasa Palace at 2013 m. In the morning we start transfer to Eli village at 2250 m by minibus, then about 5 hours trekking to the base camp (Camp I) at 3200 m. Our baggage will be carried by horses or mules. Dinner and overnight in tents at the Camp I. Ascent: 700 m. Descent: 0 m.

Day 2: Mt Ararat (Camp II) 4200 m

Trek to Camp II, about 4-5 hours trekking time. All luggage will be carried by pack animals. A short course will be given on how to use ice-axe and crampons. A climb of Mt Ararat is a tough walk (non-technical) but requiring a good deal of stamina. You should be fit for high mountain walking or acquainted with ice climbing. The upper third of volcano is covered in snow, and the last hundred meters to the summit is icy. Overnight camp in tents with all meals. Ascent: 1200 m. Descent: 0 m.

Day 3: Mt Ararat Summit 5165 m

Our ascension starts early in the morning. About at 4500 m glaciers and perennial snows are present, thus the most part of the ascent is done with equipment necessary for ice climbing. Descent to Cevirme village about 5 hours and return to Murat Camping by minibus.
